Peel this evening added the Hospital Cup to their 2009-10 haul with a far from easy 2-1 victory over D.H.S.O.B. at the Bowl.
On a balmy evening in Douglas the first half was relatively even, though 'Old Boys' gained the ascendancy in the run up to the interval, and the westerners were relieved to have the 'breathing space' of Danny Bell's headed goal in the second minute of stoppage time.
The second half started in similar fashion with 'Man of the Match' Bell completing a fine move involving Kerron Christian and Terry Rigaux eleven minutes after the restart to extend Peel's lead. However the westerners lost the initiative in midfield, and the Douglas side continued to look dangerous on the break and reduced the arrears when the ball was lobbed over Kelvin Dawson seven minutes later.
it was Kelvin who kept Peel's hand on the trophy when he made an outstanding diving save with four minutes remaining after the Peel defence had been carved open. There was still time for D.H.S.O.B. to miss an open goal in stoppage time, when an equalizer may well have handed them the impetus in the extra 30 minutes. As it was, Peel lifted the trophy for the 17th occasion, and their first since 1999, when Chris Cain, Daniel Lace as well as Dawson were all once again on the winning side.
