A SIMPLY irresistible display of clinical finishing helped new Premier League favourites Peel brush aside second division champions St John's 11-0 at Mullen-e-Cloie on Saturday.
The leader of the goal rush was back to form Juan Killip whose alert actions in the box made sure that the Douglas Road side got off to a cracking start.
Killip got his name on the scoresheet after just nine minutes as he forced home a Marc Kelly corner that had been cleverly headed back across goal by Johnny Myers.
Killip added two further goals before the break on each occasion cashing in on handling errors by the normally reliable St John's keeper Sam Brand.
The sharp Killip added his fourth with barely a minute played in the second half as he smartly clipped the ball over the advancing Brand. The second goal had come from Peel new boy Terry Rigaux who made space before drilling home from a narrow angle.
St John's spent much of the opening half chasing shadows as Rick Holden's side found their players at will. Impressive midfielder Danny Bell set up goal number three allowing Marc Kelly to beat keeper Brand with a superbly struck effort from 30 yards.
Peel went in six up at the break when a trip on Rigaux in the box allowed Myers the chance to fire smartly home from the penalty spot.
The home side looked more effective after the break, but they had no luck in front of goal.
Firstly a disallowed goal then a cracking free kick from Louis Morris that rebounded off the inside of the underside of the cross bar.
Peel confirmed their Championship credentials with the introduction of three highly impressive players from the bench. Gary Christian was only on the field for a few minutes when he cleverly diverted a miss-directed effort from Bell for goal number eight.
Goal number nine from Rob Cottier was an early contender for goal of the season as it screamed home from 40 yards.
The sending off of Saints defender Liam Leece late in the game only added to the misery for the home side in a day to forget.
Sub Neil Birchenough slotted home a 10th goal before Rigaux rounded off a glorious day for Peel by finding the net with a superbly judged half-volley.
